Week 7

Sorry I haven't updated the blog lately but I had problems logging in.

This evening we reviewed talking about clothing and then went on to study ways to describe people by
HEIGHT: se ga takai, se ga hikui
BUILD: gashhiri shita, ookii, chiisai, futotteiru, yaseteiru
HAIR: kami ga nagai/ mijikai, kinpatsu, chapatsu, hageteiru
EYES: aoi, kuroi, hosoi, ookii
GENERAL APPEARANCE: kakko ii, kakko warui, kirei, minikui
PERSONALITY: yasashii, shinsetsu, fushinsetsu, iya na hito, tanoshii, majime

We listened to the desriptions of people in the book on page 40.
Then moved on to lesson 5, using the -n desu form (semi polite) form to explain things, read the grammar description in the book carefully. It's a very useful form and easy to remember.
This lesson also covers frequeuncy so we practiced using words to explain how often we do things.

HOMEWORK: This is your 2nd piece of written work for submission - 2 descriptions, one of a person and another of a thing. For the thing, look at page 29, description of a new pasokon and base it on that.
Please keep a copy of the work and I will send feedback by email before I go away for Easter.

Don't forget that although I am away the first week after the Easter break (April 20th), the room is free so I suggested that you get together anyway and talk over any problems you've encountered or go through things together, Sakina has agreed to come along to help out.

Week 4

I didn't update the blog last week as no one was absent.
Same this week but just a reminder that you need to hand in a piece of written work for feedback next week.
I asked for a description of a place but any other topic is fine.

Week 2

First of all, thanks to Alice for a great presentation on a book she read over Xmas.

In this class we looked at lesson 24, being introduced to someone and reviewed talking about likes/dislikes / what people are good at/ not so good at.

Then we talked a bit about Japanese homes and "homestay". I will put the PPT presentation of the rooms in the house on blackboard and a list of words. (In the Vocabulary building folder)
We also used the phrase "+te wa ikemasen" meaning "must not" to talk about what you mustn't do in a Japanese home. For example

kutsu o haite wa ikemasen.
ofuro no naka de karada o aratte wa ikemasen.

We will continue the topic of "homestay" next week.

Welcome to the new class blog.

Put the URL in your favourites so you can access it easily. Don't forget to check it regularly even if you have attended the classes - I often add extra information.

Feel free to comment or share extra information about studying Japanese, for example if you come across a good website.
